Navigating the Healthy Child Database
The Healthy Child Database has several methods by which you can find specific information. The left hand panel can display one of the following views:
· Table of Contents
· Key Word Index Search
· Text Word Search
Click on one of the three tabs above the left hand panel to change the search view.
The Table of Contents is arranged like a book with chapters and subchapters. Click on the book icons to open or close each section. Click on the page icons within the books to open the topics in the right hand panel.
The Key Word Index Search will search for predefined key words. Click the “Index” tab at the top of the left panel, and then start typing a topic to search for into the text box. The Index of key words will follow your typing and narrow down the search. When the correct word is highlighted press “Enter” or click on the key word. If there are multiple topics for that key word, then an additional list of topics will drop down. Click on the topic that you wish to view and the topic will be displayed in the topic panel on the right.
The Text Word Search will search through all of the topics for any instance of the word that you type into the text box and display a list of the topics, which contain that word. Click on the Search tab at the top of the left panel, and then type a word into the text box and press “Enter”. A list of the topics, which contain the word, will be displayed. Click on the topic title that you wish to view and it will be displayed in the right hand panel.
Note: If you are using Internet Explorer, you can change the size of the panels by passing the mouse over the vertical border of the two panels until the double arrows appear, then click and hold to drag the border. This may make reading of the right hand panel easier once you have found the topic. Netscape Navigator does not support this feature.
The Browse buttons on the top right side of the topic panel will move through the database in the order of the table of contents. Click the right arrow button to go to the next topic or click the left arrow button to go to the preceding topic.
Use the “Back” button in your browser to return to the previously viewed topics.
Words in blue are links to other topics, resource information, or external web pages. Click on a link to open the page that it links to. After you have clicked on a link, it will change color to purple indicating that you have been there before.
