Stephen Cowan MD, FAAP is a board-certified pediatrician with over 15 years of clinical experience working with children. He has a subspecialty in Developmental Pediatrics and is New York State Certified in Medical Acupuncture. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the AAP Section on Child Development, a member of the Autism Research Institute’s DAN practitioners and a member of the NY State Acupuncture Society. He is a co-founder of Riverside Pediatrics, which provides health care to over 10,000 children in the New York area. In addition he is a member of the Center for Health and Healing of Northern Westchester where he provides holistic consultations and treatments in a multi-disciplinary setting. He has studied various complimentary and alternative therapies and their applicability to children with chronic and recurrent medical and behavioral disorders. He has lectured internationally on alternative approaches to developmental problems in children. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric problems such as Attention Deficit Disorder, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Migraine, Tourette’s syndrome, Asthma and Allergies. Understanding the child as an inter-related part of family and environment is the central focus of his practice. This approach respects the inseparability of mind, body and spirit and promotes a deeper understanding of what it means to be healthy.
