Innovative Lunch Boxes
Help Kids Eat Healthier Lunches
Laptop Lunches are American-style bento boxes
designed to help families pack nutritious,
environment-friendly lunches for school, work,
and travel. These sustainable lunch containers--which
come with a book of healthy lunch ideas and
lunch-making recipes--are reusable, recyclable,
and dishwasher safe. And all of the lunchboxes
are lead-free. The best part is that it's
easy to pack a variety of fun, creative lunch
items in these colorful compartments. Kids
love the design, and it helps them to become
more adventurous in eating a variety of healthy
foods.
Amy Hemmert and Tammy Pelstring, two Santa
Cruz County moms, are co-authors of The
Laptop Lunch Users Guide: Fresh Ideas
for Packing Wholesome, Earth-friendly Lunches
Your Kids Will Love. Together they created
the Laptop Lunch System, a set of compartmentalized
food containers, utensils and a water bottle
that sit neatly inside a stylish insulated
carrying case. more

FDA Urges Producers To
Stop Making Lead-Tainted Vinyl Lunchboxes
Agency warns manufacturers that vinyl lunchboxes
may leach lead into food, posing health risks
to children
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notified
makers of soft vinyl (PVC) lunchboxes yesterday
that they should stop marketing vinyl lunchboxes
that may leach lead into foods. FDAs
letter to manufacturers states that any lead
on the surface of a lunchbox lining can be
expected to contaminate food and would therefore
be a prohibited food additive. Last year,
the Center for Environmental Health (CEH)
brought national attention to the issue of
lead-tainted childrens lunchboxes when
the nonprofit sued makers and retailers of
vinyl lunchboxes for violating California
law. more

Parents Beware - ACIP
Recommends Vaccinating Preteen (11 and 12
year old) Girls with New HPV vaccine
Dawn Richardson, Parents Requesting Open
Vaccine Education (PROVE)
On Thursday, June 29th, the Advisory Committee
on Immunization Practices (ACIP) issued a
unanimous decision to recommend vaccinating
all preteen (11 and 12 year old) girls with
multiple doses of the new HPV vaccine.
Many months prior to the vote, those in favor
of the vaccine had mounted an impressive but
dangerous distraction campaign of focusing
the media on the "morality" issues
of the vaccine to distract and suppress public
debate on the very real outstanding safety
and efficacy questions.
The following excellent objection to giving
adolescent girls the HPV vaccine "Gardasil"
is written by a Texas Board Certified Obstetrician
Gynecologist who is also the father of vaccine
injured children. Share this with family,
friends, and especially your health providers
so they can look at this objectively instead
of under the influence of the marketing by
the manufacturer who is now poised to make
billions of dollars without any responsibility
for the harm they may cause. Remember - everytime
ACIP puts a new vaccine on the schedule, it
invokes IMMUNITY FROM LIABILITY FOR THE VACCINE
MANUFACTURER - parents won't be able to file
a lawsuit against MERCK for the injuries and
health problems this vaccine may cause their
daughter. more

Merck's Gardasil Vaccine
Not Proven Safe For Little Girls
In June the National Vaccine Information
Center (NVIC) called on the CDC's Advisory
Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)
to say "no" to recommending "universal
use" of Merck's Gardasil vaccine in all
pre-adolescent girls. NVIC maintains that
Merck's clinical trials did not prove the
human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine designed
to prevent cervical cancer and genital warts
is safe to give to young girls. more

More Comments on HPV Vaccine (Gardasil)
The following comments are from Barbara Loe
Fisher, president of the NVIC,
a nonprofit organization that promotes the
right to informed consent on vaccine decisions.
Barbara Loe Fisher sat on the FDA's committee
that reviews vaccines in 2001, when the vaccine
underwent early reviews.
"This has nothing to do with kids and
whether they are going to have sex,"
Fisher added. "It has to do with whether
they are going to be set up for chronic inflammatory
disease" from yet another vaccine being
added to the litany of those they already
receive. "I would want more data on long-
term effects of autoimmunity on certain genotypes,"
she said in an interview, "and whether
this vaccine is going to harm far more girls
than it is going to protect."
"HPV infection is asymptomatic and is
cleared naturally by the majority of men and
women who experience it. Rarely, HPV infection
becomes persistent and, after many years,
can cause cervical cancer in women. Most cervical
cancers are prevented in the U.S. with routine
pap smears."
"Merck's pre-licensure clinical trials
for their HPV vaccine, Gardasil, were methodologically
flawed. Merck used a potentially reactive
aluminum containing placebo to mask the magnitude
of the Gardasil's reactivity. It appears that
only about 900 pre- adolescent girls participated
in the clinical trials. Merck and the FDA
know nothing about the ability of Gardasil
to cause long term health problems, particularly
autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis,
in young girls (see an analysis of pre- licensure
clinical trials with citations at www.nvic.org)"
"The CDC's recommendation for universal
use of HPV vaccine by all pre-adolescent girls
is a profit- making enterprise for Merck and
it is a potential health risk for little girls,
who may or may not ever become HPV infected.
And, if a girl does become HPV infected after
becoming sexually active when she gets older,
she will have a very low risk of becoming
chronically HPV infected. And if she becomes
chronically HPV infected, she will have an
even lower risk of developing cervical cancer
unless she fails to get regular pap smears.
Because of routine pap screening in America,
there has been a 75 percent decline in cervical
cancer since the 1950's. Cervical cancer now
accounts for only one percent of all cancers
in American women."

Is Your Teen Suffering
From Acne? Clear Acne Naturally at the Source
I recently found the ZenMed system, a product
that is designed to treat both adult and teen
acne at its source, using the finest herbal
ingredients. I highly recommend this system
since it is formulated with natural ingredients
that have been proven over centuries to heal
skin problems such as acne, and promote a
healthy, clear complexion from the inside.
This skin care system prevents and treats
acne both internally and topically and provides
lasting results.
I know the ZenMed system works to heal acne.
I suffered from severe acne as a teen and
used many medications and harsh treatments,
including long-term antibiotics, Accutane,
and many toxic topical products. I didn't
know any better as a teen and thought these
medications and products would work. They
did not and the long-term antibiotics devastated
my immune system. The acne continued into
my adult years, and I am very happy to have
found the ZENMED Derma Cleanse System. It
cleared the acne that I had been struggling
with for 35 years after using it for only
3 weeks! It really works! It has the best,
natural, non-toxic ingredients, and I am thrilled
to recommend it to parents for helping their
teens clear their skin. Acne can be devastating
to a teen's self-image and must be treated
holistically with safe, natural ingredients.
My eleven year-old daughter is beginning to
experience acne and starting to use the ZenMed
system. I am very grateful that she will not
have to go through what I did as a teen. more

I sincerely thank you for continuing to subscribe
to Healthy Child Newsletter. These newsletters
have been sporadic in the past, and I appreciate
your patience. I imagine that other moms may
understand the craziness of trying to accomplish
a lot in what little time we have available.
Now that school is starting again, I intend
to get the newsletter out on a more regular
basis, while keeping in mind that you are
also busy and may not want too much information
all at once.
I'm happy to report that I have completely
redesigned the Healthy Child Website! It should
be very easy to navigate and find what you
are looking for. I am adding new articles
all the time so please feel free to visit
the free
article section. I send my undying appreciation
and gratitude to Rob Harris of AShop

Hosting for his tireless volunteer help
and support. If you have your own web business,
check out AShop's outstanding e-commerce tools.
Several new, excellent kids' natural
health products have been added to the
site, and I hope you will support my efforts
in publishing Healthy Child by purchasing
products or recommending them to family and
friends. I do not accept advertising on Healthy
Child and product sales are the ONLY way that
I can continue to do the work of researching,
writing and publishing Healthy Child. Rest
assured that I will never recommend a product
unless I am absolutely sure about its safety,
effectiveness, and value to you as a concerned
parent.
I am busy working on a comprehensive guide
to holistic parenting which I hope to be able
to make available to Healthy Child subscribers
and visitors for free. I will keep you updated
on the progress of this exciting project.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions,
comments or feedback. I always love to hear
