White Lotus Mattresses are Handcrafted to Last a Long Time

No machinery, no mass production. White Lotus artisans make each product one by one. They have been doing this for over 25 years. These White Lotus mattresses are layered with unbleached and undyed cotton - one layer at a time - by hand. They hand-quilt the mattresses with a thin, sharp needle to ensure that the batting won't break, shift or lump.

Some machine-made mattresses actually blow cotton into a case instead of layering it so what you're buying is a big sack of air with some cotton. After a few weeks the air will seep out and you'll be left with something that is not very comfortable. Also, machine-made mattresses are often quilted with thick punctures through the cotton which tend to break up the bats.

These mattresses normally last 10 to 15 years. They are not your traditional futons. All the White Lotus chemical-free mattresses are handcrafted separately, in a room that is properly cleansed twice a month to make sure that no other fibers contact your natural products. There are no chemical fire retardants and no borate powder or wool. There is nothing at all in this mattress except cotton.

White Lotus makes custom mattresses in many sizes including different depths. We offer 5 inch depth futons and 6 inch depth, like the futon mattresses, but with side panels and handles. Please contact us for a quote if you prefer a different depth and size.

Why Cotton?

Cotton, all by itself, provides the firmest sleeping surface. A cotton futon mattress provides for good air circulation while maintaining more even humidity and balanced temperatures. It has the ideal density for firm yet comfortable bedding. Pure cotton will not offgas any chemicals or gases. These cotton futon mattresses are perfect for people with chemical
sensitivities or allergies. Cotton is the safest bedding material for co-sleeping with your baby.

Important Information

Please note that this mattress is not organic. The cotton is unbleached and undyed - very pure, clean, "green" cotton. See White Lotus' organic cotton futon mattresses.

This futon mattress is not fire retardant and requires a doctor's prescription before the order can be processed. more info... If you order this futon mattress wrapped in wool, you will not need a prescription.

These mattresses work great on platform beds, and can also be used on top of a box spring, on the floor, and on bi-fold and tri-fold futon frames.

These mattresses have no waterproof protection. If you will have children in your bed, you need waterproofing. Protect your mattress from moisture and accidents with an organic wool moisture pad or an organic cotton waterproof pad.

NOTE: These cotton futons may have a natural botanical cotton odor that will dissipate with time. Most people don’t notice it or don’t mind it, but some people can be sensitive to the natural botanical smell. This is not a manufacturing defect.
