Cotton inherently breathes and provides for good air circulation while maintaining more even humidity and balanced temperatures. The Naturepedic No-Compromise Organic Baby Mattress uses certified organic cotton, grown in the US and certified by the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Certified Organic cotton, the purest form of cotton, is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, heavy metals or GMOs (genetically modified organisms). It is an ideal chemical-free filling material.

Waterproof, Easy-To-Clean Surface

The mattress surface is super strong, tear resistant, waterproof, and very easy-to-clean. It provides an impenetrable barrier to dust mites and other allergens. No Phthalates - Independently Tested and Confirmed

Polyethylene is largely considered to be the most non-toxic and environmentally friendly plastic available. Polyethylene has a very simple molecular structure that does not require toxic chemical additives, and is an excellent alternative to the vinyl/PVC found in nearly all crib mattresses. It eliminates the toxic chemicals without eliminating convenience. NO PVC, Phthalates, PBDEs, Polyurethane Foam, Antimony, Arsenic or Phosphorus

Having a waterproof crib mattress will save you a lot of aggravation. Naturepedic's fire protection contains no PBDEs or any brominated or chlorinated fire retardants. It contains no antimony, arsenic or phosphorus, no PAN (polyacrylonitrile), modacrylic, no dimethyl sulfate, and no boric acid, and no respirable crystaline silica. Firm Support

The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends a firm flat sleeping surface for babies. Naturepedic's heavy-duty orthopedic innerspring and firm flat surface provides ideal support in accordance with pediatrician and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) firmness recommendations.

All Naturepedic's No-Compromise baby crib mattresses feature a firm flat surface instead of the softer quilted surfaces found on some organic baby crib mattresses. The Quilted Organic Cotton Deluxe Crib Mattress, which features a non-waterproof quilted organic cotton surface, is still designed to meet CPSC recommendations by using a tighter quilting pattern and an extra firm innerspring.

What's the difference between the 150 and the 252 coil?

The 252 coil innerspring is a bit firmer and smoother, with better weight distribution than the 150. However, the real advantage lies in the center reinforcement. In addition to more coils, the 252 innerspring features 9 guage cross beams that help prevent sagging in the middle of the mattress. This is only a concern with cribs that don't support the center of the mattress well, i.e., a wire mesh crib bottom. Both innerprings feature 9 gauge border wire for strong edge support.

Environmentally Friendly Materials

The food-grade polyethylene waterproof cover has a simple molecular structure that makes it unnecessary to use toxic chemicals in its production or add chemical plasticizers such as phthalates to make it soft. Typical waterproof covers and pads use vinyl/PVC, which releases dioxin into the environment during production and requires the use of phthalates that are harmful to both children and the environment. The polyurethane foam filling used in most mattresses is produced with numerous toxic chemicals. Switching from PVC/vinyl and polyurethane foam to organic cotton and polyethylene helps promote a healthier and safer environment.

Crib Mattress Pads, Sheets and Bedding

A 100% organic cotton pad and 100% organic cotton fitted sheet are recommended. All bedding placed on top of the mattress should be 100% cotton, preferrably organic. No mattress pads, covers, sheets, or blankets made from synthetic materials are considered safe for a baby.
