Did you know that your tap water is not safe for your family to drink? There are many contaminants in water that have been linked to cancer, hormone disruption, nervous system damage, developmental issues, and fertility problems.
No one should be drinking tap or bottled water, especially babies and children, pregnant or breastfeeding mothers. Pure water is vital to our children’s health and development.
Here is a partial list of contaminants in tap water:
- Pesticides, herbicides
- Solvents, detergents, VOCs
- Lead, mercury, aluminum, arsenic, copper, chromium, cadmium
- Viruses, bacteria, cysts and parasites
An EWG analysis of test results from public water systems in the US shows drinking water for more than 170 million Americans contains radioactive elements at levels that may increase the risk of cancer. Radiation in water is a serious threat to pregnant women, babies and young children. But the EPA’s legal limits of radiation are seriously inadequate.
Millions of homes in America still get water piped through lead pipes. There is no safe level of exposure to lead.
Utilities treat the water that is piped into homes, but byproducts are formed from chlorine and other disinfectants that can cause cancer and may also harm a fetus and increase the risk of problems during pregnancy.
The Environmental Protection Agency is doing a terrible job of protecting public health. There are more than 160 unregulated contaminants in the tap water of many homes in the US. Even when chemicals are regulated, the levels set are well above the levels that scientific studies have found to pose health risks.
Bottled water is not the answer since it’s only required to be “as good as” tap water. Save your money and our planet by getting a good quality water filter instead of buying bottled water. A good in-home water filter can dramatically reduce the level of contaminants in your water.
The Berkey filters are effective in filtering most contaminants while leaving the minerals in. They are also economical. I am mentioning Berkey before sending you to the EWG database, since it’s an excellent, effective filter that is not listed in the EWG database. Why? Because it’s not NSF certified. Berkey purifiers have been rigorously tested by third-party independent accredited labs far surpassing the NSF standards. It’s one of the best you can get and will also save you money.
See EWG’s Water Filter Guide for more information.
